Student Handbook Statement: view full statement The 78th Legislature amended the Texas Education Code (TEC), §26.0081, to require the Texas Education Agency to produce and give to school districts, including charter schools, a written explanation of the options and requirements for providing assistance to students who have learning difficulties or who need, or may need, special education. The explanation must state that the parent is entitled at any time to request evaluation for special education services... GENERAL INFORMATION School times Kindergarten: 8:00am - 2:30pm (carpool line may start no earlier than 2:15) 1st-3rd 8:00am - 3:00pm (carpool line may start no earlier than 2:45) 4th-6th 8:00am - 3:15pm (carpool line may start on the shoulder no earlier than 3:00) 7th-12th 8:00am-3:45pm (carpool line may start on the shoulder no earlier than 3:30) Students may be dropped off NO EARLIER than 7:45am. Siblings of students that get dismissed prior to their older siblings may stay on campus in their grade clusters until their older siblings are dismissed. Younger siblings will be picked up at their building. Carpools have the same privilege, but ONLY on carpool days. On non carpool days, students MUST be picked up at their regular dismissal time.
Lining up for drop off and pickup Dropoff/Pickup: Teachers will be on duty at 7:45am to unload cars. KG teachers unload 1 car at a time.1st-12th will unload 2 to 3 cars at a time. They will open the rear passenger door for your child.
Students need to have their belongings in the car and easy access as to not hold up the carpool line (NOT IN THE TRUNK). Same procedure for drop off just reversed.
KG drop off/pickup- Line starts after the last teacher parking space. 1st-3rd drop off/pickup- Line starts around dumpster/tree in parking lot. 4th-12th drop off/pickup- If arriving and waiting before 7:45 and/or before 3:15(4th-6th) or 3:45(7th-12th), please start line on shoulder on S. Pipeline without blocking the entrance. This allows for staff and student drivers to park in their designated areas. A teacher will wave you into the drive when they are ready for the line to some into the gates. Drop off/pickup line safety: Time will be marked by digital sign in front of high school. Students need to have their belongings in the car and easy access as to not hold up the carpool line (NOT IN THE TRUNK). Students exit passenger side of car so they do not go out into traffic flow. Students are considered a late pick up after the last car in the carpool line drives out. Please share pickup and drop off times and procedures with other parents and all persons allowed to pick up or drop off. Please do NOT park at drop off/pick up times UNLESS you are coming to the office to sign your child out. Please do not try to speak with teachers while they are on parking lot duty as they have students to attend to during those times. If student is going home with another student or someone NOT on their pickup list, the teacher AND the office must have a letter from the parent the morning of that day. Attendance Tardies - Tardiness affects classroom instruction. If a student is late the parent must escort them into the office to get a tardy slip and sign the check in log and then escort them into class. If they are KG-3rd grade, the parent must also get a visitor's badge and walk them INTO the building. Suggestions that will make it easier in the morning: backpack by the door, lunches packed (at least the non-refrigerated items) and water bottles filled the night before, laying out clothes the night before and a checklist for your child on what should be done every morning. Every 6 tardies equals 1 absence. Absence - Students must be in attendance 90% of each semester. That allows only 9 absences (whether excused or unexcused) per semester. On the10th absence, your student loses credit for that class. Please send a note with your child the day they return to school from an absence ( even if you have called the day of the absence). Students will be marked as an unexcused absence and will not be able to make up their work if an excuse note is not brought by the 2nd day of their return. We understand some sicknesses may not require a doctor's attention, but if it is more than a 3 day absence we suggest that you obtain a doctor's note. City of Fort Worth truancy tickets will be written for excessive unexcused absences.
Late Pickup Please call the office if you know you are going to be late picking your child up because of an accident, flat tire, etc.. ALL late pickups- The parent must come to the office and sign the late pickup log and receive a visitor's badge. Child Protective Services will be called for excessive late pickups.
Website Posted on the website are faculty and staff, general information, parent/student handbook, supply lists, teacher wishlists and calendar. Please note the last day of school is May 31st but if Bad Weather Days need to take place they will take place on June 1st and 4th. Please make summer plans accordingly. If you do not have a computer at home or access at work, your public library is an option. Email We use email as our primary source of communication. If you do not have email, please call the office and I will transfer you to your student's teacher's voicemail so that they may call you back at their next available time. Co-op hours Treetops is a parent/teacher cooperative. We ask that each family donate 60 hours of their time to the school. This may be done in a multitude of ways. During the school week you may clean bathrooms or help teachers clean classrooms immediately following dismissal time. You may drive on field trips. For those families who work long hours we have the alternate plan of donating items off the teachers' wishlists listed on our website under “How You Can Help”. For every $10 of materials you donate you receive 1 co-op hour. You can also do a flat donation. If you are on campus during school hours, you must pass a criminal background check and go the office to obtain a visitor’s sticker. Please fill out a coop sheet the DAY you do the work and have a teacher sign it. Bring it to the office right away. If you have any questions about co-op, please email Ms Renee at

or call the office 817-283-1771. If you drive on a field trip or come to a classroom function you must fill out and pass a criminal background check. You must fill out a Criminal Background Check EVERY year. They are available online under How You Can Help and then under subsection Approved Volunteer List. Teacher Wish lists will be on teacher sites AND under the Wish list section. We have "rollover hours." When a family reaches their 60 hours for the current school year they may roll them over to the next year or donate them to a family unable to fulfill their hours. Co-op hours sheets that are not turned in by the end of the month will be invalid. Visiting the campus If you come on campus after you drop off your student in the am you MUST come to the office to get a visitor’s badge(unless otherwise specified) , no matter how long you have been at Treetops! Nutritious lunches and reusable water bottles EVERY day. No MONSTER, energy drinks or sodas! No drink mixes to add to their water. They need water, additives are messy and attract bugs! Parents CANNOT bring their child fast food or restaurant take-out (which means bring A SACK LUNCH) Students are able to have a hot breakfast and dinner at home, so only non-microwavable food is to be brought. Students' lunches and water bottles need to be brought with them in the morning at drop off time. It stresses the student if they are wondering if their parent is going to bring their lunch on time and they can’t fully focus on their work. Dress code Tennis Shoes and socks-EVERY day as KG-8th grades have PE every day and we have a 22 acre campus that we utilize. Highschoolers that are enrolled in a PE class must wear or bring socks and tennis shoes. Closed toed shoes are encouraged for highschoolers as they do take nature walks with their teachers. More specific dress code rules can be found in the Student/Parent Handbook. Electronic and Telecommunications Devices Electronic and telecommunication devices are a major source of distraction in the classroom. For this reason, students are not allowed to bring any electronic devices to school. This includes, but is not limited to, cell phones, cameras (digital or film), music players of any kind, video players, hand-held video/computer games, etc. If your student drives, they may leave their cell phone in their car. If your student needs to have a cell phone because they go somewhere other than where their parents are in the afternoon, they may give their cell phone to their teacher to hold until dismissal.* Students found in possession of any such device will have the device confiscated. The process for retrieving confiscated devices is as follows: • First Offense: the student may retrieve the device from the office upon payment of a $15.00 fine. • Second Offense: a parent must retrieve the device from the office upon payment of a $30.00 fine. • Third Offense & beyond: a parent must retrieve the device from the office upon payment of a $40.00 fine and for each subsequent offense.
Any device not retrieved within thirty 30 days from the date of confiscation will be donated to the Women’s Shelter of Tarrant County. *Calculators and certain other devices required for specific classes are exceptions. However, any item that is misused will be subject to the above policy.

Textbook checkout Each teacher will assign textbooks to a student and provide the office with a copy of the list. If a book is missing, then we will know which student has the book. Parents are responsible for the cost of replacing books that are lost or damaged. Backpack diving, binders, the website, and teacher emails – All these things work together to keep parents, students and faculty “ IN THE KNOW”. Go backpack or binder diving EVERY NIGHT! Your child's teacher will be emailing you frequently. Changes in address, telephone numbers and email addresses: Please notify the office and your child's teachers of changes in any of these areas. We especially need to know changes in phone numbers in case your child should become ill or injured. As email is our primary source of communication, it is important that we have the correct one.
