Our faculty are sensitive, energetic professionals that seek to engage and inspire students to think critically.

Students will be accepted for grades K-12 who are of legal age to begin school in the State of Texas, having reached their 5th birthday by September 1st of the applicable school year.

If however, a student leaves the school, then that student must reapply and will be placed in the lottery for placement. Treetops School will not enroll any student who has been subject to expulsion or who is awaiting expulsion from any school.

Please schedule conferences through email with the teacher or calling the office. Please do not call the office to have your student sent to the office to be picked up. You must come to the office, sign your child out, get a visitors badge, and go to your child’s class to pick them up.

If your child is not picked up by the time allotted, they will be escorted to the office and you must sign a late log. We understand flat tires, broken down cars, accidents on the road that make for terrible traffic, etc.. Please call the office, if you can, to inform us of your situation. If your child has more than 3 late pickups for ANY reason, they will be returned to their local public school. Treetops has no before or after school care

Parking lot

During drop off and pickup times the parking lots can get congested. Students must unload and load on the passenger side on the vehicles to avoid accidents. The students must stay with their teachers until the pickup vehicle is pulled into the drop off spot and the teacher dismisses the student so that the teacher’s can ensure your child’s safety. Please have easy access to your child’s things so that they don’t have to go into the trunk of the vehicle and impede the flow of the carpool lines.

SECURITY and Visitors

Parents who wish to accompany their child to the classroom should obtain a visitor’s badge from the office. If a parent or guardian needs to pick up a child from school prior to dismissal time, they must sign out the child in the office. Those individuals will be required to show identification.  Students are required to leave the campus immediately upon dismissal unless enrolled in supervised on-campus after school activity or asked to remain by a teacher. Students may not return to the campus unless accompanied by a parent or guardian.

ALL visitors to campus must check into the office and get a visitor’s sticker EVERY time they are on campus. ALL persons that will be on campus during school hours or driving on field trips must fill out and pass a criminal background check. You may print one  off the website under the How You Can Help section and under it’s subsection Approved Volunteer List or come to the office to pick one up.

Parents and graduates may visit during lunch hours, but must obtain a sticker from the office.

ATTENDANCE

Texas Education Code 25.085 requires compulsory attendance for students who are at least six years old as of September 1 of the applicable school year. The law requires a student to attend school until the student’s 18th birthday, unless the student is exempt under 25.086. This requirement is enforced through 25.093 and 25.094.  Developing a habit of regular and punctual attendance will help a student throughout his/her educational experience. Poor attendance is a major cause of poor grades and other problems as well as resulting in additional work for both the student and the teacher.

Attendance and punctuality are paramount for your child to have a successful classroom experience.  The state of Texas says that your child must have 90% instructional time per class, per semester in order to receive credit for their classes. This averages out to be 9 absences per semester-losing credit and being returned to their local school district on the 10th absence (excused AND unexcused included).    Please call the office 817-283-1771 or email Ms. Leigh This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it on the morning of or the night before if your child will be absent. Please provide a note with the reason for and the date(s) of your child’s absence(s) the day they return to school.

Sometimes tardiness cannot be helped. Bear in mind that each time your child enters a classroom late it interrupts their classmates and they could also lose valuable instruction time. Any child who is dropped off late -late is after 8:00am -the student must get a tardy slip from the office and the parent must get a visitor's badge and escort them to the office.  Every 6 tardies equals 1 absence so it could affect student's attendance and could result in loss of credit and/or return to local public school.

Treetops School International requires cooperation from parents in the matter of school attendance and punctuality, particularly in regard to the following:  Ensure your child arrives and is picked up on time everyday.  Schedule routine medical and dental appointments before and after school whenever possible.  Inform the teachers of any absences with notes from home or the physician the day the student returns to school.   Students are required to be in school except in cases of emergency, illness, or religious observance. It is the parents’ and or guardians responsibility to inform the school of an absence.  A written note must accompany the student upon return to school. Unless otherwise approved by the Head of the School, students may not have more than 10% per semester. A student who is absent more than 10%  per semester may not be eligible to pass that grade level due to excessive absences unless prior arrangements have been made and cleared by the Head of the School for chronic or other medical reasons. Teachers should be asked for make-up assignments. Every six (6)  tardies will be counted as one unexcused absence. Unexcused absences are any absences that have not been excused as defined above and outlined by the Texas Education Agency. Students will be required to complete make-up work.  If the absence is a planned absence, the student MUST get the work they will miss PRIOR to the absence and work is due upon DAY of return.

TRUANCY

Truancy is any absence without prior knowledge and consent of the parent and or guardian or which is in violation of state law and school disciplinary procedures. Truant absences will result in a loss of credit for class work for the hours and or days of the truancy. In addition, parents will be notified and disciplinary measures will be taken and/or result in the student returning to their district school.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

Treetops does not have a nurse on staff. Parents are asked to keep the school and class teachers fully informed of significant changes to their child’s health and contact numbers in order to enable the school to take the best possible care of each student. When students must take medication at school the following procedure must be observed:  A medication consent form must be completed and signed by the parent or guardian prior to dispensing any medication, either prescription or non-prescription. A new form is required each year.  No medication will be dispensed without parent or guardian consent.  The prescription label must have the student’s name, current date, name of the medication, dosage, and the time to be given.  Prescribed asthma inhalers may be kept on the student with the prescription attached.

FIRE AND EMERGENCY DRILLS  Fire and emergency drills are held at irregular intervals throughout the school year.

CLOSED CAMPUS

Treetops school International maintains a closed campus. Students are not to leave the school grounds from the time school begins in the morning until it ends in the afternoon without written permission from the parents. Students returning to school must check in at the Administration Office and be given a pass back to class.

DISCIPLINE

A STUDENT’S ATTITUDE TOWARD SCHOOL WILL PLAY A LARGE ROLE IN DETERMINING HOW WELL HE OR SHE DOES IN SCHOOL. The primary purpose for coming to school should be to grow through classroom and extracurricular activities. Students must remember that they are responsible for their own actions. If actions are in violation of school guidelines, consequences will have to be accepted. Students are accountable for their behavior on the way to and from school and during any school sponsored activities.

School personnel may counsel students any time regarding their behavior. Please accept this advice as valuable and understand that their intent is to help students. NO STUDENT HAS THE RIGHT TO IMPEDE THE EDUCATION OF ANOTHER STUDENT. Any behavior, which is disruptive to the learning environment, will not be tolerated and the steps described in the disciplinary process will be followed.

It is important that parents strive to work with their children and the school personnel in establishing clear expectations for student behavior. The staff has a systematic discipline plan, which will be reviewed with the students the first day of class and reiterated throughout the school year. Every effort will be made to develop positive consequences, which can be applied to individual students as well as classrooms. Consistency is important. The overall plan will establish firm and consistent limits for students and established a positive educational environment for both the student and the teacher. Generally, the following levels will be used to determine consequences for disregarding classroom rules: 1)Warning from teacher or staff member. 2) Discipline from classroom teacher. 3)Teacher discipline and  parent notification. 4)Coordinator's discipline and parent notification. 5)Head of school discipline and parent notification.
