Mission Statement: "Our mission is to inspire students to climb to new heights in service, character, and educating by creating a positive, safe community." Treetops International School was founded as a private school in 1969 and converted to a charter school in 1999. Our mission is to foster intellectual development and academic achievement by providing a school centered around challenging interactive learning experiences that consistently bridge traditional disciplines. Essential to the achievement of this mission is the establishment of a community of learning -- a community built upon the values of personal responsibility, consideration for others, respect for the environment, academic integrity, and perseverance. The campus has been developed as a more natural and nature-oriented setting for learning. Tucked away on a twenty acre site, the campus consists of playing fields, a Native American Village, a replica of Bird's Fort, Pagodas, the Jacob Boll Wanderweg Trail, Festival Grounds, and numerous gardens.
Accreditation: Treetops is accredited for K-12th grade by the Southern Association of Colleges and by Texas Education Agency.
Class Room Size: The average class size is approximately 17 students per teacher. Treetops International uses the co-op approach to partner with parents in sharing the responsibility to promote educating the whole child. The TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills) are used as the core curriculum. TEKS Guidelines can be found on Texas Education Agency’s website, http://www.tea.state.tx.us.
Assessment: Student achievement is reported every 3 weeks with progress reports and every nine weeks with report cards. Grades 3-12 will administer the TAKS. Benchmark testing will be done schoolwide at the beginning, middle and end of the school year. Admissions: Admission will not be based on gender, national origin, ethnicity, religion, disability, academic, artistic, athletic ability, or the district the student would otherwise attend. Treetops School is a Texas Open Enrollment Charter School. There are no eligibility requirements for enrollment in Treetops. As required by the Education Reform Act of 1993, the school employs a Lottery Enrollment to admit students. The term "lottery" used here means that when more students apply for admission than can be accommodated by the maximum enrollment, students must be chosen from the pool at random for all the available spots. Students enrolled in the charter school do not have to reapply every year. Students must complete an Treetops Application Form in order to be included in the lottery. Admissions Policy: All admission policies and paperwork has the anti-discrimination state as required by the TEC 12.111 as well as being posted in the office and on the school web page. Treetops Application Form: Parents must complete the enrollment form and provide copies of the child's social security card, birth certificate, and a copy of shot records before enrollment may be complete.
